What if the Phillies had a five-game winning streak and nobody noticed?
I was at the Phillies-Nationals game Wednesday night, got to see a couple hits by Chase Utley and Aaron Rowand, a decent performance from my least favorite Phillies pitcher Jon Lieber, and a home run by Ryan Howard before we left in the top of the sixth...It was just too cold and damp to stick it out, and it was a "school night" anyway...So imagine my surprise this morning, after listening to the game in the radio on the way back up Broad Street, and watching the end of the game on Comcast SportsNet, and the Post Game Live segments, that I pick up my Philadelphia Daily News today and have to wade through 15 pages of NFL draft coverage, Penn Relays coverage (!), b.s. about the Eagles retro-uniforms for their 75th anniversary, NBA coverage (!), a feature column on A-Rod, before I get to the Phillies game story...Everybody claims this isn't a baseball town anymore -- but to have the horrible news judgement to bury the fifth game in a winning streak 15 pages in makes me question who made the decision that it isn't a baseball town anymore...Oh, well...When I was at Villanova, I used to get upset if the Penn Relays wasn't covered better, so I guess it's cyclical, but still questionable. To this fan.

Phillies do it to me again.
I still love them. Even though they have only won one game so far this season, I still love the Phillies. But boy, is it frustrating.
A few weeks ago, former Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist Bill Lyon wrote a great "guest column" in the Sunday Inquirer that just about says it all. You can read it here.
I went to Opening Day at Citizens Bank Park on Monday, April 2nd with my beautiful wife, and we had a fantastic time. It was a great game, ending in extra innings with a Phillies loss. We're supposed to go again this weekend. I've watched as many innings on TV as I can when not working or on the road with family over Easter weekend, and I still think they can come back and win some games. Hey, I'll settle for the wild card -- how many wild card teams have won the World Series the past few years? That would make us all happy, I think, just as long as they make the playoffs.
