Words of Wisdom from Adam (Batman) West

Came across a cool, old-school web site, The Batman Tribute Pages, that had me laughing earlier today...Be sure to check out Batman's words of wisdom to Robin, i.e. "Batman Lecturing Robin," for some real gems. Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!

NLDS Game One Reaction

Colorado Rockies 4, Phillies 2...Looks familiar...All season long the Phillies have had a tough loss and come back to win the next couple games...My hope is that this is part of the same syndrome...I listened to most of the game on radio yesterday, due to business obligations...I didn't order tickets for the post-season this year, because I've paid for them twice before (2005, 2006) only to see the Phillies come up a game short...So this year I figured I wouldn't jinx them...What a lousy schedule they got handed for the first round of the playoffs...You've got a fan base in Philadelphia that is, whether we like to admit it or not, more "working class" than "blue collar," families and couples that have to work in order to afford the g.d. tickets to begin with, and then they schedule two home games at 3 p.m....So I guess in that way my decision not to buy tickets was vindicated...We even went online Sunday night and during the day Monday looking to buy tickets (the starting price by 11 a.m. Monday was around $500 for a single ticket to game one)...Now I expect the Phillies hitting to come around today (in about four hours from this writing), as it did show signs of picking up late in the game yesterday, and I bet Kyle Kendrick will give them a "quality start." And they certainly will be well-rested for Game Three, with it's 9:30 p.m. Eastern time start on Saturday night, and Game Four, at 10:30 p.m. Eastern on Sunday night, in time for a return to Citizens Bank Park for Game Five at 6:30 p.m. Eastern...It says here the Phillies win the series, 3-2...See you in the stands!

What a Weekend -- Phillies, Army Football, and more!

Last week, my lovely bride and I attended two Phillies games -- on Tuesday, Sept. 25th, when they lost to the Atlanta Braves, 10-6, and on Friday, Sept. 28th, when they beat the Washington Nationals, 6-0...Tuesday's game was nothing to brag about, and we left when at the bottom of the seventh...But Friday's game featured a spectacular Cole Hamels pitching performance and some great hitting by the Phightin' Phils...Then we got up at the crack of dawn to drive from Philadelphia to West Point to see the Army-Temple football game (12 noon kick-off)...With my mother-in-law and brother-in-law, we were privileged to see a high-scoring (37-21) Army victory over the hapless Temple Owls...It was one of the higher-scoring Army games I've attended, and one of the few wins in my short (6 years) history of attending the games with my wife and her family...Then we went over to my mother-in-law's house to watch the dreadful 4-2 Phillies loss to the Nationals Saturday night...Sunday morning/afternoon, we stayed at my mother-in-law's long enough to watch the first half-hour of the Mets/Marlins game, and enough to witness live-on-the-tube immolation of the Mets and Tom Glavine, before jumping into the car to listen to the Phillies/Nationals game on the radio for the long drive back to Philadelphia from North Jersey...We got home in time to witness the post-game celebrations at Citizens Bank Park...What a weekend...Jimmy Rollins does deserve to be MVP, and Charlie Manuel -- God bless 'em -- deserves to be the National League manager of the year...I don't care that the Rockies won with a bunch of kids, or that Arizona won with a bunch of kids -- Manuel hasn't had any decent pitchers to count on ALL season, and still won the NL East...Go Phillies!
