Quick Thoughts on TV Old & New

Not sure how I feel about NBC scheduling a new version of "The Rockford Files" this fall with Dermot Mulroney as Jim Rockford and Beau Bridges as Rocky, Jim Rockford's dad...I think NBC could make more money just showing the original series in prime time again...And I also have a bad feeling about CBS scheduling a new version of "Hawaii Five-O," with Scott Caan as Danny (they haven't cast McGarrett yet)...Both shows are classic in their distinctive way, and every time (to me) ABC, Fox, NBC or CBS remake a show (see "Bionic Woman," "Mission: Impossible," "Dragnet") they seem to stink on ice (well the Dick Wolff version of "Dragnet" was actually pretty good but they never gave it a chance on ABC)...A few years ago they got as far as starting to film a "HFO" remake with Gary Busey as Steve McGarrett -- that could have been fun just for the shock value...And of course, tonight one of my favorites, Vincent D'Onofrio, starts his two-part farewell on "Law & Order Criminal Intent." My life lives on -- in reruns and syndication, catching up with old episodes of "The Unit," "Arrested Development," "Law & Order," etc. And my still-growing collection of DVDs...I hope they cast someone really funny as Evelyn "Angel" Martin and someone really evil as Wo Fat...

Random Thoughts on a Breezy, Sunny March Day

Heard Ike Reese on WIP Radio asking out loud, "Is Donovan McNabb the quarterback of the future for this Eagles franchise?"...I'm sure it was rhetorical...But all I could think of is, if Donovan McNabb is the Quarterback of the Future, then Ralph Kramden & Ed Norton are the Chefs of the Future...Things you don't see anymore: string...paper drinking straws...Saw "Cop Out" the other day, funny movie, not a world-beater, but nostalgic...Love the fact that Kevin Smith got Harold Faltermeyer to do the soundtrack...Rest In Peace Fess Parker...My bracket got busted in the first afternoon...Got my tickets for Opening Day, and my 17-game package tix in hand...See you in the stands!
